Women’s Racing Highlights 2019

2019 is proving to be a good year for the female racers in the club.

March

Megan Cullen 6th in the 60 strong field at the Seacroft Wheelers Women’s Races, with Lucy’s Ellmore in the top15.

The Ilkley Hilly 10TT brought by a 2nd place for Claire Jessop and a 3rd for Rachel Crowther. Claire then followed this with a 3rd at the Harrogate Nova 15TT!

The first BSCA competition of the year Roller Racing saw brilliant results for the U13 girls, Emily Middlebrooke, Isobel Wilks and Poppy Peacock taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd at National and Regional levels, collectively winning the team prize as well!

April

Eleanor Hunt rode for Yorkshire in the Youth Tour of Scotland

Eleanor also came 3rd in the U16s at Klondike GP in Guisborough

Megan Cullen & Lucy Ellmore completed the 2 day Witham Hall Junior Women’s Grand Prix. Meg achieved Otley’s best ever Junior National result, with 7th place on stage 1.

In the club open 10 mile TT on the V212, it was an Otley podium in the Women’s Junior Race with Eleanor Hunt taking the win in 27.23, Lucy Ellmore 2nd in 28.47 & in her debut TT Emily Middlebrooke 3rd  with 29.17 (beating mum Rebecca!). Eleanor Hunt, Claire Jessop and Helen Goldthorpe won the overall team prize and Helen Coutie took 3rd in the Women’s Road Bike competition.

May

The BSCA Circuit Championship was held at the Brownlee Centre, organised by the club. Eleanor Hunt came 1st and Lucy Ellmore 2nd in the U16s (National & Yorkshire). The U13 girls saw Poppy Peacock 3rd, Emily Middlebrooke 4th and Isobel Wilks 5th. Isla Alyward took 2nd in the U9s (National & Yorkshire) and Amy Hodgkins in the U11s came 7th Nationally and 5th in Yorkshire. Sisters Erin and Ellie Whitaker both made their debut on the track, with U7 Erin taking 3rd (National & Yorkshire) and U11 Ellie 8th National & 6th in Yorkshire.

 

June

The month of The York Rally also sees the BSCA Grass Track Championship held there. A very good day out by the Otley blue team. Emily Middlebrooke(U13) & Isla Alyward (U9) both becoming National & Yorkshire Champions! In the U13s Poppy Peacock was 2nd (National & Yorkshire) and Isobel Wilks 4th Nationally and 3rd In Yorkshire, again taking the National and Regional Team prize together.

Ilkley Cycle Races was fiercely competitive with Eleanor Hunt coming 6th in the U16s. Racing the circuit for the first time U14s Poppy Peacock came in 7th followed by Emily Middlebrooke in 8th, also racing Ilkley for the first time.

Claire Jessop raced to 2nd at the East Bradford 15TT

A busy month saw another discipline conquered by our young women, the BSCA Hill Climb near Bolton Abbey. Emily Middlebrooke became the U13 Yorkshire Champion, equalled by Amy Hodgkins who became the U11 Champion.

July

Back to grasstrack, this time the British Cycling Regional Fixed Wheel Championships at Roundhay Park. This turned out to be an Otley only turnout for the women! Needless to say, the podiums were full of blue. Poppy Peacock 1st, Emily Middlebrooke 2nd and Isobel Wilks 3rd in the U14s, Eleanor Hunt was Regional U16 Champion and Helen Goldthorpe won the Women’s category.

July is always a busy month, Otley Cycle Races on a hot and very fast night gave Eleanor Hunt 4th place in a bunch sprint for the U16s. Lucy Ellmore and Meg Cullen rode in the Women’s race against the country’s elite.

Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough, is a brutal course. Lucy Ellmore in the National Junior Women’s Race broke free of the pack to come a brave 12th.

Helen Goldthorpe braved the National 100TT, finishing in 4:58:51, 5th female vet.
