Young People: We take our responsibilities to safeguard young people and vulnerable adults very seriously.
Unaccompanied younger riders
The club is willing to take unaccompanied minors over the age of 14 on its rides subject to completion of our safeguarding form and parental consent. Children over 8 but below the age of 14 are welcome accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult. We will expect that adult to remain with the child throughout the ride. For some rides e.g., the Reliability Ride, riders under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Acceptance of all children on rides is subject to the ride leader’s discretion. If the ride leader judges that the child represents a safety risk, they have the right not to accept them on the ride.
However advanced and skilful they are on a bike; we can’t accommodate children under the age of 8.
Parental consent forms
All unaccompanied under 18s and vulnerable adults must have a parental consent form signed by a parent, guardian or carer, if a form has not been completed, they will not be allowed to participate in any club activities. If they are a club member the form does not need to be carried if the club has a record of this being completed previously (usually on applying for membership).
Guest riders should download the parental consent form from this website and complete it, bring it with you to any club event and show the form to the ride leader or event organiser.
If a parent, guardian or carer accompanies an under 18 or vulnerable adult rider then consent is assumed.
Parental consent for photographs
Prior parental consent needs to be given before any photographs of a person under 18 or vulnerable adults are posted on the club website or other social media.
Photographs are often taken during club activities for use in promoting cycling events on the club website and social media. These are often group shots of cyclists. If you do not wish your child or vulnerable adult, whether or not they are club members appearing in a photograph please make this clear to the ride leader/event organiser. If not, it will be assumed that you are consenting to the use of photographs being used as stated above.
