Otley Cycle Club 2022 Youth, Junior and U23 Road Race Season

Hello 2022 Road Racing Season – The Blue Train has left the station!

The Spatzwear Rayner Foundation Spring Race Series kicked off the Road Race season on Sunday 6th Feb at the Brownlee track. With most riders wearing full winter gear for some tough racing in almost ‘Biblical’ conditions.

Spatzwear Rayner Foundation Spring Race Series

A creditable 11 OCC Blue Train riders were out competing hard, including a standout result for Matt Elmore finishing 4th in his first ever senior race. Well done everyone!

Under 14 Boys

Daniel Middlebrooke – 12th
Oscar Hall – DNF (alas)

Under16 Girls

Katherine Bucknell and Emily Middlebrooke entered, with Katherine’s first u16 race finishing strongly. Emily finished 9th so in the points.

Under 16 Boys

Joe Turnball, Matt Peace, Alex Hodgkins and James Luxton in a full field of 40 (although we think there were a few DNSs) Joe finished 6th, Matt 8th, Alex 13th and James a little further back in 28th. Well done for just getting out and racing today.

The Junior Mens

The team had Oliver Sergeant in the Cat 3/4 racing in atrocious conditions. Rain-hail-snow & gale force winds, forced a race abandonment mid-way with Oliver taking 2nd at the flag. Commissaire may take positions a few laps before the finish, waiting to see the official result. Confirmed as 3rd.

The weather faired up for E123 with Sam Hollis and Matt Ellmore on the start line, Sam unfortunately punctured mid-race and retired. Matt got into a break of 2 and held in for a few laps before sliding back into the bunch placing himself well for the finish and taking a brilliant 4th place!

The Otley One – Reliability Ride

Meanwhile… Tom Cullen chose to hone his winter training programme at the OCC ‘The Otley One’ Terrible Ten Reliability Ride, seen in the snap hugging some chap’s rear wheel warmly up Burnsall Fell…. Oh yes, it’s Scott Thwaites currently riding for UCI ProTeam Alpecin–Fenix. Tom was, I believe 1st rider back at Chevin Cycles HQ (after
