Finally, after months of a shortened course due to temporary traffic lights, the club’s racers managed to face the full 12.5mile Triangle course (including the ‘Mountain’). Despite some strong gusty winds during the day, it wasn’t enough to put off those eager to race. A field of ten club riders (plus one guest) turned up, and despite the conditions managed PBs, including in some cases (John Raftery) bettering times set many years ago as a teenager!
Fastest time on the night was guest rider Daniel Jay-Webster with a time (on fixed gear!) of 29:31, and fastest club rider was Chris Stokes in 32:08. Fastest on handicap was Steve Broadley, with a scaled time of 31:31.
With main rival Tony Wild marshaling, Tom Broadley managed to create a gap in the overall points competition, giving him a lead of 11 points. As the season nears its denoument, can he hold on!
There are two events next week. A 15 at Walshford on Tuesday (not a championship event as I erroneously suggested last week), and a 12.5 Triangle on Thursday at Arthington. If you can marshal at these, it would be appreciated.
