Welcome to our half-day Social Series ride options for Sunday 8 March.
If you’re thinking of joining us for the first time check out some of our ride reports to read about the fun we have on our rides. Our motto is #NoOneGetsLeftBehind and we love cafe stops as much as we like cycling! You can ride with us twice before deciding whether to join us.
We meet at the Buttercross Market Sq at 9.00 for a 9.15am start.
All rides will return to the Fleece pub in Otley by about 13.00 and we hope you will stop and chat at the end of the ride!
Both our Gentle and Stretching rides are doable on a mountain bike, hydrid or road bike – #AnyBikeWillDo. And we welcome e-bikes on any ride.
If the rides below aren’t what you’re looking for check out our B Rides, Intermediate Rides and A Rides options on Sundays. And we have informal rides on Wednesday nights and Thursday daytimes. And that’s not all – we also have Mountain Bike rides, Mountain Goat rides (for roadies who like hills) and many more informal member-only rides posted by members on the Facebook group.
We’re always looking for ride leaders, so if you’re interested in leading one of these rides get in touch via the event on the club Facebook Group or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Gentle Ride: Wharfedale Wanderer 16 miles
This ride takes a leisurely approach out of Otley, using a footpath (please dismount!) and then the road by the golf course. There is plenty of meandering around Menston and Guiseley and then slowly ascends up to the Chevin via Carlton Lane. The café stop is at the Britannia Hotel with a good range of snacks and drinks.
Stretching Ride (1): Bolton Bridge 23 miles
This is a shorter ride to Bolton Abbey with the café stop at Bolton Bridge just before the Devonshire Arms – just to make a change from Cavendish Pavilion.
Cafe: Abbey Tea Rooms – Bolton Bridge
Stretching Ride (2): Kikrby Overblow 22 miles
This route goes out via Almscliffe Cragg and North Rigton, there is a short section of the main Harrogate Road and then a turning to Kirkby Overblow. The return leg uses the back roads via Weeton, Huby and Castley.
Both routes include a right hand turn off an A-road so Ride Leader can choose which they prefer.
Café: The Sq and Compass Pub in North Rigton (2/3 of the way through)
Alternatively you could do the ride in reverse to avoid the right hand turn. This then involves going through Huby instead of Castley and having coffee at the Local Pantry which is 3/4 though the ride. This is the reverse route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29396065.
Strenuous Ride: A ‘lumpy’ 30 – 35 miles
There are two routes on offer, to be chosen on the day (or two groups may go out separately!)
Route 1: Thornthwaite, Rowden & Rigon (33 miles) https://ridewithgps.com/routes/32051463
Cafe TBC: Sophie’s in Hampsthwaite is about half way round…
Route 2: Cocking Lane to Draughton (32 miles) https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28803058
Cafe TBC: Billy Bob’s Parlour is about half way round (but you may have to sit outside if you’ve not booked a table)
