Warm, dry and sunny it was for YCCA Round 4 Cyclo-Cross at Myrtle Park Sunday 3rd Nov. Tho, a tad muddy on the ground….
I have it on good authority.. and let’s face it there is no greater authority than – John Rawnsley… The “King of Kross”… aka Wreckless Wrawnsley Snr as I fondly know him… who told me…. “This is a proper Cylo-Cross course”. No arguments… it was, and it was a cracker! something for everyone, flat TT stuff, off-camber/tight bends, mud, undulations, tree rooty tootys, steps, boards, undulations, uphill, downhill…. the only thing missing was a sandpit (Thank the Lord!) Yes, it was tough, and challenging, but I don’t mind telling you I did enjoy it, (see my happy smiley fiz!) and it remains my favourite course/venue, and not just because I can see it from my house barely a mile away..!
Anyways, it clearly suited the Otley CC competitors, and thanks goodness the young people pitched up this week… For we… soz.. they… excelled with not 1, not 2 but 3 podiums! and 1 ‘nearly’!
Well done, and a BIG UP! to Ruaridh, and Isla Aylward, and Henry Hollyman with 3rd place for Ruaridh (Mum Kate – “Ruaridh fell at the start, but fought back about a dozen places to take a podium finish, a gutsy race by him” and two 3rd place age categories for Isla and Henry. Mo Leeming-Sykes just missing out with a 4th.
Great to see Lizzie Deignan causing a bit of a stir at Myrtle Park, arriving with daughter Orla, and there to support her niece Amelia riding in the Under 10’s race. YCCA secretary Fred Rothwell managed a few words on the microphone with Lizzie.

Thanks to Mark Barker for organising (Bronte Wheelers) YCCA’s usual culprits.
Mo L-S, Jenson Young, Andy Wadsworth, Kate Aylward and er.. me for snaps. They’re not too shabby are they? My usual “Pro” snappers were ‘away’. Alas… no pics of Liam, Helen Goldthorpe said she couldn’t be bothered… allegedly.
