Welcome to our half-day Social Series ride options for Sunday 22 September.
If you’re thinking of joining us for the first time check out some of our ride reports to read about the fun we have on our rides. Our motto is #NoOneGetsLeftBehind and we love cafe stops as much as we like cycling! You can ride with us twice before deciding whether to join the club.
We meet in Otley (at the Buttercross, in the market square) at 9.00 for a 9.15am start. All rides will return to the Fleece pub in Otley by about 13.00 and we hope you will stick around for a chat at the end of the ride.
Both our Gentle and Stretching rides are doable on a mountain bike, hydrid or road bike – #AnyBikeWillDo. And we welcome e-bikes on any ride.
If the rides below aren’t what you’re looking for check out our B Rides, Intermediate Rides and A Rides options on Sundays. And we have informal rides on Wednesday nights and Thursday daytimes. And that’s not all – we also have Mountain Bike rides, Mountain Goat rides (for roadies who like hills) and many more informal member-only rides posted by members on the Facebook group.
We’re always looking for ride leaders, so if you’re interested in leading one of these rides get in touch via the event on the club Facebook Group or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Gentle Ride: Eccup and donkeys (19 miles)
Route: This gentle ride sets off along the Pool Road which can be busy but is flat for about 3 miles. We will then go up Creskeld Lane. This is steep in places but there are plenty of stopping places to enjoy the views! There is another busy stretch of road until we reach the back roads of Eccup. We will go up to Eccup reservoir to admire the views and then return on the back roads to the Donkey Sanctuary. There is a small café area and you can spend some time with the donkeys! The return to Otley will go via Bramhope and then a long descent into Otley to finish at the Fleece.
Café: The Donkey Sanctuary (bring cash)
NB – Due to holidays and the UCI World Champs we’re low on volunteers this week so any other rides are not guaranteed to go out and will be arranged on the day – assuming OCC members offer to lead them on the day. Suggested routes could be as follows:
Stretching Ride (1): Eccup and Golden Acre Park (21 miles)
Route: This is the shorter of the two stretching rides this week. The ride has a tough climb at beginning up West Chevin to Surprise View but once at the top the rest of the ride is gently stretching and includes a ride round to Eccup Reservoir on quieter roads.
Cafe: Golden Acre Park (accessed from Otley Rd, not Arthington road)
Stretching Ride (2): Fewston and Washburn Valley (30 miles)
Route: This route to the Fewston area is the slightly longer route than our other Fewston ride (but with similar hills). It’s an anti-clockwise loop via Castley, North Rigton, Burn Bridge, Beckwithshaw, Fewston and Askwith. The coffee stop is at 22 miles so bring snacks to keep you going!
Cafe: Tea Room at Washburn Heritage Centre
Strenuous Ride: Bolton Abbey via Langbar
Unless anyone wants to put on a longer ride instead / as well.
Route: This route goes via Middleton with a gradual climb up Langbar. We will stop to admire the amazing views and then a sharp descent down to the Bolton Abbey estate (which should only be attempted by riders with brakes in full working order!) The return route takes the lower flatter road back to Otley.
Café: Cavendish Pavilion
