Matt Elmore had a prolific weekend of racing and got himself a win and a podium. He reports on the North East Regional Champs:
Today’s race was at the Hetton hawks track, there was just an under 14 race. The race started as a sprint and I managed to get to the front and led them up the hill, I couldn’t move to the back as the group had taken up the track so I kept on the front with a couple of riders and with about 14th laps to go me and this other lad sprinted and made a break away of about 7 riders and worked together really well and by one lap to go we had almost caught the main under 14 group that we broke away from. On the last lap we kept together until the finishing straight, the whole group sprinted, unfortunately I was at the back, I managed to sprint to the front and just got 3rd. Overall I’m really pleased on how it went.
and also from the Albarosa event at the Brownlee circuit:
My race started in heavy rainfall, we sprinted at the start but we kept as one big group. we soon settled down, there was the odd attack off the front and they would be in front for about a lap but then we would catch them. With all the attacking there was only me and another under 14 in the group, we would struggle keeping up on the downhill but we never got dropped. With 2 laps to go the under 14 was really struggling and dropped on the hill but I managed to keep up with the under 16s. On the last lap the pace sped up but we kept together until the final straight where the group sprinted and I tried to cling on as long as possible, when I realised I came first, which I’m really pleased with.
Well raced Matt.
