It was a great night for the Otley Cycle Club Race Teams at Colne on Thursday night with 10 of our riders in the thick of the action with several wins and finishing places across most categories in 6th of the CDPP Evening Crit Series at the Steven Burke circuit in Colne.
In the U14 boys, Matt Ellmore achieved that elusive first win of the season a nd reports:
“From the start I managed to get to the front of the main group which contained both U14 and U16s as we had all been started together. One other U14 was in that group and I stayed at the back of the main group with him for a while, but then I started to move to the front because I noticed he had dropped a bit so I attacked as the group sped up so the gap would get bigger. On the last lap he caught back on so I moved to the front again so I was in a better place to sprint on the final straight I kept with the under 16s and tried to hang on for as long as possible, when I crossed the line I realised the under 14 was dropped and that that I was first, which I’m really pleased with.”
George Radcliffe was riding in the U16 boys and reports:
“Thursday’s Youth A race at Colne would attract ten riders including team mate Dexter. The race followed a similar format throughout: short, fast turns on the front from the majority of riders with the exception of a small number of attacks, three of which were from me. However, the strong winds prevented a breakaway going so the race came down to a sprint from which I finished second with Dexter third. Overall a good night for Otley CC across all categories.”
In the U16 girls race Eleanor Hunt added a 5th win to her run of success in the Thursday night Colne series.
Next up was the 3/4 Category race where Otley were represented by Sam Howcroft, Henry Hollyman and Dexter Leeming-Sykes who had “ridden-up” despite having just raced in the U16 category. Dexter has already scored more than 50 British Cycling points this season which allows U16 riders to race higher category races. Dexter finished 5th, Sam 9th and Henry 10th.
The final event of the evening was the Elite/1/2/3 Category Race where Otley had 4 riders who all finished in the points. Tom Cullen and Robbie Pollard made it an Otley 1 – 2, Joe Howcroft narrowly missed making it Otley 1-2-3 to finish in 4th place and Harry Hunt finished in a strong 7th place.
A great night of racing for all of the “Blue Train” !
