Matt Elmore raced at the Youth U14 Klondike GP at Guisborough lastSunday, finishing well with a 6th place! He reports on the race:
There were around about 30 riders on the start sheet including the under 14 girls. The race started with a little sprint and the group I was in quickly formed and after the first few laps the pace settled down dramatically. For the next one or two laps I tried to get to the front of the groups but I found that hard as the circuit had lots of corners which made over taking quite hard. On the back straight I managed to get to the front and i made a attack as at the time I felt I could get away
because I was quicker than most of them in the corners which was where I could gain distance but they managed to catch me on the back straight.
For the next 2 laps I was stuck on the front because no one else wanted to, then two rides attacked and got some distance between use, the pace picked up and we never managed to catch them.
For the rest of the laps we kept it steady having the odd attack but no-one broke away, when the 5 laps to go went up the pace picked up and everyone was getting a bit twitchy still no one attacked. With 2 laps to go I attacked and managed to get a tiny lead but they caught me up on the last lap, I stayed on the front and gave it my all but the group started to sprint on the back straight, I had nothing left but I managed to get 4th out of the group and 6th out of the whole race (judging by the photos of the sprint). Over all I am pleased with how the race went.
