Lucy Ellmore raced today (9th January) in the women’s 2/3 race at Croft. Here is her report from the race.
It was really windy today, so I just wanted to stay in the main bunch and shelter as much as possible. There was an attack as soon as the race started and I struggled to follow it so I dropped off with two others. After about a lap we caught back onto the main group, until there was another attack not long after I had caught back on. Again, I couldn’t follow it and this split the field into two groups of 4 and a group of 3 at the back which I was in. There were also some other riders behind who had ended up on their own. The other two in my group dropped off and left me on my own, which was really hard in the wind but it meant that I wouldn’t have to sprint against them, as I didn’t think that I would have the energy in the sprint where there would be a headwind. I managed to stay ahead of the other two that I dropped and came 9th out of 12. It wasn’t my best race, but I am pleased that there were no crashes as there were really strong side winds.
Well done to Lucy racing in conditions that made most of us hide completely from outside.
