The Club 50 Mile Championships took place Saturday 30th June, incorporated into the Yorkshire Cycling Federation (YCF) Open 50.
As many will already know, whilst taking part in the event our friend and club mate Steve Broadley sadly was involved in an incident with a vehicle which resulted in him having to be airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
It goes without saying that the whole club, indeed the whole cycling community, wish Steve a full and speedy recovery. The Triangle Series, which Steve won in 2016, will seem empty without him. We also extend our support and our thoughts to Steve’s immediate family, his wife Janet and sons Tom, the current Triangle Series Champion, and Joe.
Thanks go to all who stopped to help, to the emergency services and to Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
Circumstances dictated that the Club Overall and Handicap 50 awards weren’t decided but the Women’s award was and that has gone to Claire Jessop who recorded a time of 2:14:23. Congratulations to Claire.
Following on from the YCF 50, both our own Open 50 due to be held Sunday 8th July and the YCF 100 due to be held Saturday 14th July, the latter incorporating our 100 Championships and both using the same roads as the YCF 50 have been cancelled.
