As some of you may know, we have recently begun social mountain bike rides within the club. These are open to all members and are run in a very similar fashion to the other club social series.
At the moment, we’re aiming to run a ride every month and will vary the distance and difficulty to try to offer something for everyone. We’ve already had a few rides out, including local rides around Harewood and Skipton, as well as further afield at the Gisburn Forest trail centre. For the regular rides, we’ll aim to cover 15-30 miles, which will vary depending on the particular route in question. We’re currently alternating the rides between Saturday and Sunday so that as many people as possible get a chance to come along with us, so don’t worry if you can’t make the next ride – there will be another one up soon!
For equipment, we ask that people turn up with a half decent, well maintained mountain bike and appropriate clothing for the conditions, especially in the winter. You’ll also need enough kit to be self-sufficient on the trails (e.g. spare inner tube, pump and multi-tool). I would recommend that bikes have front-suspension at a minimum for the majority of trails that we ride, but feel free to contact me if you have any concerns.
Our rides are posted on the OCC Members Facebook page and you can sign up there, or contact me directly. Our next rides are:
Sunday 7th January – Half-day ride from Guiseley heading out to Pudsey, Calverley, Sandos etc. – https://www.facebook.com/
(approx. 20 miles, moderately hilly – 2-3 hours riding time)
Saturday 10th Feb – Full-day ride from Kirkby Malzeard – https://www.facebook.com/
(approx. 30-35 miles, hilly terrain – 4-5 hours riding time)
We’d love to see more club members come along to these rides and if you’re interested or have any questions, please contact me directly: firstname.lastname@example.org.
