Half-Day Social rides Sunday 18th June

Ride Leaders Choice Day June 18th

Our “Choice” days are when our fantastic ride leaders choose a route that they would like to share with everyone. This could be a new route or it could be one of routes (but perhaps with a slight twist) Each ride leader will be able to take no more than 10 people on their ride so if you are keen to do a ride make sure you arrive early at the Buttercross to book your place on Sunday morning!!

Gentle – Steve’s Away Day. MEET AT RIPLEY – 20 Miles

This lovely gentle ride will explore the back lanes around Ripon. You will meet at Ripley Car Park (near the castle) at 10.00. The route explores Fountains Abbey, Studley Royal deer park, Ripon centre, and loop back via Bishop Monkton. There will be a coffee stop in Ripon. The ride will be led by Steve Moncur with a refuelling stop at Oliver’s Pantry in Ripley.

The meeting point for this AWAY DAY ride is at Ripley Castle car park at 10 am.

For those wanting a longer ride, Steve will be leaving the Buttercross at 08-30 and cycling to Ripley. The route out plus the gentle loop and the ride back makes a total of 57 miles. Please contact Steve on Facebook to confirm that you would like to join this ride as numbers are limited:

Gentle  – Mark’s Meander 16 MILES

This ride is an old favourite and ideal for new members who want to experience the joys of social cycling with fabulous views of the Otley countryside.

There are a few climbs to North Rigton via Almscliffe Cragg but you will be surprised how accessible this route is, we take the hills in a very steady manner. The route goes along the back roads to Huby and then goes up Gravelly Hill to Almscliffe Crag, with plenty of stops on the way. After Almscliffe Crag there is a downhill stretch to the pub. We return to Almscliffe Crag and then take a right hand turn so that we can descend on the back roads to Otley. Coffee and refreshments at the Square and Compass in North Rigton.

STRETCHING – Jill’s Jolly  – 28 MILES

This is  a lovely route which will take us out to Shadwell via Thorner. The route will be a little longer than our usual stretching ride but it will be a relatively flat with  frequent stops to admire the views. Coffee stop at the Dexter pub.

STRETCHING – Kaz’s  Krazy Krew – 27 Miles

Kaz  Will take her Stretching group to Kirkby Overblow via Almscliffe Crag with a coffee stop at the Square and Compass on the way back. The return to Otley will go through Weeton, Castley and Pool Road. The route is similar to Mark’s Gentle meander, but with an extension to Kirkby Overblow, and of course, just that little bit faster than the Gentle rides!

Strenous – Mark’s Magnificent Reservoir Run – 30 miles

This is a new route devised by Mark Sage, who will lead a thirty mile anticlockwise loop to Fewston. A fair bit of climbing and descents on this one, but the views from the top are well worth the effort. Coffee stop is a secret but Mark knows!

Strenous – Christine is Star Struck – 50 miles

This will be a fabulous ride out for those with the legs for it to see the National Team Time Trial. We have two club teams riding in the Trial so it is a great chance to support Liz Hills, Helen Goldthorpe, Claire Jessop and Ian Cullen in our club shirts.

The plan is to cycle up to the Washford Roundabout which is a flattish 17miles and cheer the team on as they storm past. Christine will lead us on the back roads to see the team at the finish point and then cycle back via country lanes to complete a 50 mile circuit.

Meet at the Buttercross by 8-45 at the latest so we can set off just before 9am.
