Junior Road Racing. Points mean, well, points!

Plenty of points have been scored by our Juniors in road racing in the past week, riding far and wide in Boroughbridge, Sheffield, Nelson and Elland. There’s unfortunately been some mishaps too.

Our sponsor Chevin Cycles organises an evening road race series and Tom Cullen took part in the 16th May event close to Boroughbridge. In a race for Elite, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th category riders, Tom, a 2nd category rider, took 10th place to earn himself a point and the first of many for the club in the days following.

A raid over the border into Lancashire on 18th May obviously proved worthwhile with a fantastic points total of 28 points for the club in the CDPP Summer Series #5 at the Steven Burke Sports Hub.

Without doubt the road racing result of the season so far, Otley CC took the first three places in the U14 Boys race. Jack Coates was the victor, taking 10 points, followed by George Radcliffe in second on 8 points and Dexter Leeming-Sykes in third for 7 points.

Sam Howcroft was 7th in the U16 Boys race, taking 3 points.

Eleanor Hunt was 3rd in the U14 Girls event but unfortunately no points awarded.

On 20th May at the Brooksbank Cycle Circuit near Elland, sometimes known as the Hammerstones Circuit due to its location at the junction of Hammerstone Leach Lane and Hammerstones Road, the team amassed a total of 11 points in the various classes during the Pedalsport Spring Circuits #3.

The majority of the points went to on form Jack Coates who scored 7 for his fine 3rd place in the U14 Boys event with Dexter Leeming-Sykes taking the last point for 10th.

James Coates took 2 points for 8th in the 3/4 category event and 1 point went to Sam Howcroft in the U16 Boys.

Well done to all our Junior riders on those excellent results.

Sadly, after such a good week, Tom Cullen and Sam Howcroft suffered arm injuries in racing accidents over the last few days.

Tom injured his right elbow Tuesday 23rd May in another of the Chevin Cycles evening road races. No breaks fortunately. Tom has his arm in a sling and has lots of cuts, grazes and bruises but hopes to be fit for the Junior CiCLE Classic on Sunday 4th June in Melton Mowbray.

Riding the new cycle circuit at Boddington Playing Fields in Adel on Thursday 25th May Sam broke his left wrist in a crash. Sam now has his arm in a pot for six weeks.

Best wishes boys from all your clubmates and heal quickly!
