Racing 61 – 24th & 25th September. Up hill and down dale against the clock

The days are getting shorter and so are TTs. On the weekend of 24th and 25th September members took part what are definitely at the shorter end of time-trials, hillclimbs and a 10-mile TT.

On Saturday, Andrew Bolton continued his world-of-pain Yorkshire Hill-climbs Points Competition 2016 campaign by riding the Halifax Imperial Wheelers hillclimb on the 0.9 mile V9919 at Luddenden.  The series consists of nine events and 10 hills, our own 2-stage event adding the extra course.  The events are listed below.

28th June YCF V9916 (Report)

24th September Halifax Imperial Wheelers V9919

25th September Bridlington CC V491

1st October Otley CC V8910/V897

23rd October Huddersfield RC V999

23rd October Yorkshire RC V9916

Andrew’s brief report on his brief ride says “Did OK today, 8:14.9 I think I was 4th fastest vet.  Made a right mess of the hairpins and lost a lot of momentum, so know I could do faster, but every race is a learning experience!”

The event was won by Andy Cunningham of All Terrain Cycles in 4:51.1 with Helen Roby (HD Revolutions) fastest woman with 7:10.6, both being course records.

Slightly later the same day, four Otley riders – Claire and Greg Jessop, Sam Howcroft and Gareth Metcalfe – rode the Harrogate Nova 10 on the V212 near Boroughbridge. Claire reports that “…it was a windy day, windy on the way out with all riders helped up the red wall with a push from the wind on the way back.”  Gareth was the fastest Otley rider with a 22:55. Claire and Greg both recorded PBs for the course with 26:21 and 26:36 respectively.  Sam, riding his normal road bike without tri-bars, recorded 27:41.

Fastest overall with a 21:10 was Ed Nicholson of York Cycleworks.  Eleanor Haresign of the promoting club was fastest woman with a 24:42. Full results courtesy of Harrogate Nova and CTT can be found here and photographs at Walshford roundabout courtesy of Millie and Harrogate Nova here.

The following day, Andrew rode the third of the Yorkshire Hill-climbs Points Competition, the Bridlington CC event on the 1,100 yard V491 near Flixton, combining an event for Juniors with one for Seniors and Vets, Andrew riding the latter.  Andrew competed the course, some of it 20%, in 5:00.3. Fastest overall was Kieran Savage of Team B38/Underpin Racing in 2:55.0.  Fastest woman in Andrew’s event was Trish Watson of the promoting club in 5:58.6 although Hannah Bayes of Scarborough Paragon CC riding in the Junior event rode to a 4:31.4. No results published yet but all are listed in the results board photograph below.
