Cyclo-Cross (or ‘Cross or CX etc) might usually be regarded as a winter sport but the Yorkshire Cyclo-Cross Association (YCCA) doesn’t just confine this eminently watchable and strenuous racing to the colder months. Its 2016 Yorkshire Cyclo-Cross Summer Series runs from April to August, consisting of 10 rounds, round 3 of which was held in Otley’s Wharfemeadows Park on Wednesday 25th May.
Plenty of rain in the days before the event meant the conditions were muddy, but then it just wouldn’t be proper ‘Cross then would it? Racing is split simply into two categories, Under 14 and Over 14. Otley Cycle Club was represented in the U14s category by Sam Howcroft, Jake Powell and Thomas Renshaw. The Over 14 Otley CC riders – or maybe that should be the Very Over 14s – were James Cullen, Tim Howcroft and dedicated mud-lover Peter Middlemiss. Results for both categories can be found on the dedicated YCCA Summer Series Round 3 webpage here.
Series standings are also available but it may be a few days after each event that these are updated.
The next round is Wednesday 8th June at Middleton Park, Leeds.
And if you fancy a go yourself but aren’t sure how to get involved then see the YCCA Get Into Cyclo-Cross webpage.
