Racing 27 – May 2016. The Veitch Brothers in Middlesbrough road racing action

A relatively quiet road racing weekend for Otley CC but Future Stars James and Harry Veitch kept the flag flying, venturing north on Sunday 22nd May to ride the North East Youth League Round 9, this round organised by Newcastle Phoenix CC.  The races were held on the 1km Middlesbrough Cycle Circuit at Middlesborough Sports Village.

James, who is a member of the Otley CC/Chevin Cycles Junior and Youth racing team, rode the U16 Boys race and reports that twice he had to bring back two particular riders by himself as no-one else would help in the chase.  Going into the last few laps they attacked again, this time with two others. Having been on the front for so long took its toll on James and he couldn’t go with them, instead once again having to do a solo chase.  By the last lap he had closed the gap to about 5 seconds but just didn’t have the legs to catch them.  However, James hung on for 6th place, scoring 4 points for his efforts.

Younger brother Harry rode the U12 Boys race.  Harry finished in 9th place in his event and will soon hopefully giving his elder brother a run for his money!

Well done to both riders and keep up the good work.

Thanks to James for his report and for the photographs.
