More success for Otley Cycle Club/Chevin Cycles Junior/Youth Race Team at York Sport Cycle Circuit last week saw James Coates move from 4th to 3rd Cat.
The other James, James Veitch, continues to improve in the U16 category, getting stronger with each race and is certainly a rider to watch for the future.
Tom Cullen’s week didn’t go as well as he’d expect after his recent excellent results. Riding in the 3rd cat event on Saturday 2nd Tom led the peleton chasing the break, his efforts resulting him finishing 17th in the bunch sprint. His Tuesday 2/3/4 category race didn’t start too well, puncturing soon after the flag dropped – surely it was only flat at the bottom Tom? – but the kind officials allowed him a lap out although only after they’d watched him chase hard for two laps. Proving his fitness, Tom managed to salvage 10th and the last available point.
James Coates had trained hard alongside Tom during the week and although worried they might not be fresh for racing James proved they’d done the right thing by finishing 5th in the Saturday 4th cat event. But better still was to come in the following Tuesday race in the same category. Although the original 3-man break he was a part of was brought back after 3 laps James still managed a fantastic 3rd place, a result that sees him move up to, yes you guessed it, 3rd category.
That’ll promote some internal club rivalry as James and Tom will now ride together in the same category. Don’t be greedy boys, make sure you share the wins between you!
