Half Day Social Rides 13th March

Social Section Rides 13th March

The sun is starting to shine, sometimes it stops raining but we don’t mind what ever the weather because we are out on our bikes with our friends. This time we have some adventures planned with the stretching and strenuous groups going high over the tops to the little town of Silsden for a social time in a cafe that is opening just for us that Sunday!! They serve a fine selection of snacks that will make you forget all about the hill climb you have just done! But we know some of our riders would like to swerve the hill and opt for a gentler ride along the valley and we have that covered with not just one but TWO fabulous flatter rides for those who have yet to get their hill climb legs out! All rides will start this time at the Buttercross – the gentler riders near Greggs, the Stretching by the Buttercross and the Strenuous by the Heart Foundation Shop!! We will leave at 9.15 so get there by 9.00 so you can get the ride of your choice – we aim to have just 8-10 people in each ride group

On the way to Addingham

Gentle – Addingham 19 miles with Jill and David

This gentle mainly flat ride goes on the back road towards Bolton Abbey and then we walk over the footbridge to Adding ham. There is a gentle meander through Addingham and then on the old back road. There is a short busy section of the A65 to complete before arriving into Ilkley for a well deserved café stop.http://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/7930312

Easy Stretching – Bolton Bridge with Debbie and Brian

Our stretching route is a little more stretching than usual with a big hill to climb to Silsden and back. If you are started to want a bit more stretch than the usual gentle ride but are not feeling ready yet for a long hill climb then you will enjoy this gentler option!

Testing the route to Silsden

Stretching Ride: Silsden withSteve, Lorraine, Barry and Karen

This route starts on the Ilkley road and then briefly joins the main road to Ilkley before taking the old Otley Road to Burley in Wharfedale. It is routed in this direction to avoid congestion on the back road as all groups are going in this direction! The route takes you through Ilkley on a short stretch of the A65 and then up to Addingham Moorside on a lovely quiet back road. You will take at least two stops on the climb to take photos and get your breath back! Once you reach the top of the climb it is an easy descent into Silsden and the café stop before retracing your ride back over the hill again and then eventually taking the back road to Otley.

Strenuous – Silsden, via Middleton and return via Addingham 29 miles with John and Phil

This is a good leg stretcher with a short warm up via Middleton and then the challenging climb up to the top of Silsden, then a winding descent on a quiet back road into the town. After the café stop we head back up another hill and then down into Addingham and back to Ilkley. As a social ride we will stop at the top of the climbs and take lots of photos of the views (allowing you to catch your breath!)
