Morning Activities: Choose from 7 Rides From 9.00 am

Cycle rides are lead by a ride leader and assisted by a rear marker to ensure the group remains together.  The routes are not signposted, but Garmin Connect maps will be published nearer to the date of the festival.

Family Road Ride 15 Miles Return 2.00 pm.  Tom Cullen (age 14) is ride leader and explains, “If you like cycling and football or other games this is your dream.”  The purpose of this ride is to encourage children into cycling.  We usually break the ride with a family game such as football.  The target age group is 8 – 16 year old with adults.

Social Series Road Ride 25 Miles Return 2.00 pm.  Suitable for those who are happy to ride at a leisurely pace sometimes getting off to push up hill whenever we need to.  No one will be left behind.

Women Only Road Ride R
oute, pace and distance will be decided on the day by those joining the ride.  Return 2.00 pm.  Enjoy the company of other women cyclists.

Road Ride 40 Miles Return 2.00 pm.  Ride at a steady 13/15 mph on the flat.  Re-grouping at the top of hills or other points whenever necessary.

Road Ride 60 Miles Return 2.00 pm.  Faster pace ride 16/18 mph on the flat.  Re-grouping at the top of hills or other points whenever necessary.

Road Ride 80 Miles Return 2.30 pm.  Very fast pace, long and hilly ride.  For experienced cyclists and those with a very good level of fitness.

Cycle Path Ride 5 Miles Depart 12.00 noon, return 2.00 pm.

Intended participants Reluctant riders or those who have not been on a bike for a long time.  People who feel that venturing onto roads alone, or in charge of other family members is just too daunting.  Also aimed at children who can ride and control bike but who lack any real road sense or experience other than controlled environments such as driveways and playgrounds.   All ages welcome.
Endurance and effort Five miles in and around Otley.  We allow time for briefings, re-groupings and ordered crossings of tricky junctions.  There is always a chance to catch breath and request rest.
Route and terrain Route will show alternative ways to get about Otley.  Generally we use tarmac surfaces but some links require sections of hardcore, grass or slightly gravelly surface.  Every now and then a kerb needs to be bumped down from.  The most severe gradient would be similar to Billams Hill.
Format We ride in a close-knit group (but not too close to scare anyone) with leader escorting and giving route commentary and guidance at hazards.
Required skills To stay upright and to be able to brake and turn corners.  Basic highway code preferred except for accompanied children

Otley Cycling Festival rides are organised to British Cycling standards.  We cannot be held responsible for incidents/accidents that may occur.  We therefore highly recommend that you join either British Cycling or CTC as membership includes liability insurance and legal advice concerning cycling related issues.

Important Notice to Parents / Guardians / Carers

Wherever you care for anyone such as a child or young person – 17 years or younger – or a vulnerable adult who is attending any activities please complete this registration form and ensure it is handed to a Festival Marshal upon arrival.  This is necessary even where the parent/guardian/carer is attending the event, as it's important ride leaders know of any medical alerts and next of kin contacts should the parent/guardian/carer be indisposed.  No other registration is required.
