Otley Cycle Club 10 Mile Time Trial Open Event

Each year our club agrees to host a number of time trials on behalf of Cycling Time Trials UK. Hosting an event means that our riders are able to ride in other events throughout the year. All time trial events rely on volunteers to run them and the hosting role means this is shared out amongst all clubs.

Our first of these hosted Open events is on Saturday 14th April and will be based at Arkendale (near to Knaresborough). We need a big crew of 31 volunteers to run this event successfully so we really hope you will sign up to help out by making cakes, being a road side marshal, assisting with car parking, meeting and greeting riders or organising our renown OCC Café at the community centre.

This year we have added an additional women only event so that we can encourage even more women to race. We have given time slots for roles like the marshalling so that those standing outside do not have to stand there all afternoon! This also means you can race and marshal in the other event.

If you are hoping to race please remember that the CTT National Rules means that we CANNOT prioritise Otley Riders, and the allocation of riders is seeded (not first come/first served) It would be great to have some Otley blue in the event so if you are hoping to race it would be great if you could “persuade” a friend or family member to volunteer at the event because our club priority is to host the event rather than race the event.

Our promoter for this event this year is Christine Bell and Trevor Hatib. Christine will be handling queries and the on line applications so if you have any queries please contact her directly: christinebell3@btinternet.com or 07941 971904. Trevor will be managing the risk assessments and the marshalling (with John Barnett as our chief steward)

Last year we got some great feedback about the warmth, friendliness and organisation of our event and we hope to repeat this success this year. The event is also an important fund raiser with the club, with all profits going directly into club funds (last year we made over £100 from the sale of the café pies and cakes!)

Please sign up on this website (or contact Christine direct if you prefer) for one of the volunteer roles: https://www.volunteersignup.org/WRPPR
