It might be cold, damp and miserable at the moment but our younger racers haven’t let that stop them training hard and Saturday 13th January saw them putting that winter work to the test in Round 1 of the 2018 Velo29 Winter Series at the Croft Motor Racing Circuit in Dalton On Tees.
Team Manager Martin Pollard has provided a report on the day’s racing action.
‘Riders Luke O Connell, Robbie Pollard, Tom Cullen and James Coates represented the club in this opening event. Luke was away first with the 3rd Category group and a minute later the 2nd Category group went containing the others in.
For half the race the 2nd Category group were losing ground and didn’t look like catching the main group. However, they got a good chaingang going with a good pace.
Unfortunately Tom was caught out and lost touch with the others but with 4 laps to go Robbie and James caught the main group while at the same time a group of 7 went off the front so it came down to a bunch sprint of 40 + riders. Robbie came through to get second in the bunch and 9th overall with James a couple of places behind in 11th and Luke 13th.
Not a bad start as they are not up to full fitness yet’.
Not ‘not a bad start’ but a very good start and well done everyone for all that hard work. It points to some good results for the 2018 season.
