A rich variety of rides which will take you all over the Wharfe valley on quiet back roads (with some main road elements) to offer a range of beautiful views
All rides will gather at the Buttercross in the main market place at 9:00 and will depart from here by 9:15. All rides will return to the Fleece pub in Otley by about 13:00 and we hope you will stop and chat at the end of the ride.
All the rides are lead by our Otley Cycle Club members, who volunteer to help out. We always welcome offers of help with leading the rides – please contact Christine if you can help this time
Gentle Ride: Harewood Deer Stalker 18 miles
This is a lovely, relatively flat, route that includes time spent in the public grounds to Harewood House on a range of bridleways (mostly tarmac – and a small section where you may prefer to walk). This route offers excellent views and you will often see deer, highland cattle and red kites. If you are new to cycling, this route is a perfect introduction as it will also involve an introduction to group riding skills along the short main road section from Pool.
The cafe stop will be at the lovely Muddy Boots cafe at Harewood Village, this is one of our favourite cafe stops with a great range of drinks and snacks – please bring cash and locks
Team One: David Bennett and Kerri Holmes
Team Two: Sandra Beaumont Purchon and Gary Purchon
Stretching Ride: Ilkley via Cow and Calf 24 miles
A gentle outwards approach using Pool Road to Creskeld Lane makes this a good warm up ride. After Creskeld Lane there is a climb up to Bramhope and then the route goes along the top of the Chevin to take in Surprise View. It then follows the course of the Tour de Yorkshire down Buckle Lane and up to the Moor road climbing gradually to the Cow and Calf. From the top of this climb you have amazing views of the Wharfe Valley and a real sense of achievement. From Ilkley we return via the quiet back road to Otley. Our café stop is a later point than usual in the ride so bring snacks!
There are various café options in Ilkley, including La Stazione and Outside the Box.

Stretching Ride: Pootle to Pannel 24 miles
This is a very attractive route which starts off with the short climb to Farnley and then a descent and short climb along the back roads behind Lindley reservoir. This includes one of the hills climbs that our mini flyers now find is possible rather than impossible! The route continues on back roads, through the streets of Pannel and then onto the main road to the Crimple Hall Garden Centre for our coffee stop. After the coffee stop the route is very gentle back to Otley with some long descents and a few shorter climbs. It is a great ride with fantastic views.

Strenuous – Thruscross Thriller, 27 Miles
This is a beautiful ride which can be demanding on the legs but rewards you with amazing views and fun descents. The route takes you up the climb at Asquith to Snowden Mount and then onto Blubberhouses. From there a small back road takes you along Thruscross Reservoir and a very challenging hill climb with some amazing views! The coffee stop is at the Farm Café with a good range of snacks. The return leg will take in views of Fewston Reservoir. The route takes a detour via the gated road to give you a very strenuous work out (a quicker return leg may be taken)
