Junior Circuit Racing

Otley CC juniors success at circuit racing continues with many more placings and points scored recently at several venues.

In the The Tameside Cycling Development Group (TCDG) Race League (supported by Rapha) Rounds 14 (4th July) and 15 (11th July) held on the closed Tameside circuit at Ashton-Under-Lyne, Jack Coates took a 4th and a 2nd, scoring a total of 6 points to add to his already impressive tally.

Wednesday 12th July saw Otley CC promoting Round 2 of the Brownlee Centre Evening Race Series, this round organised by Tim Howcroft.

Harry Hunt and Toby Kitching rode the 3/4 Category race. Harry finished 5th for 5 points and Toby earned 1 point for 9th. The race was won by Sam Dickinson.

The Women’s E/1/2/3/4 race was won by Felicity Gledhill of SunSport Velo and the Men’s E/1/2/3 race by Robert Gray of Wheelbase Alture MGD. Double Olympic Champion Alistair Brownlee finished 7th.

Otley riders have an excellent record at the CDPP Summer Series, held on the Steven Burke Sports Hub, and recent results have been no exception.

In the 13th event of the series on 13th July, Otley’s usual suspects George Radcliffe, Jack Coates and Dexter Leeming-Sykes took the top three places in the U14 Boys, earning 10, 8 and 7 points respectively.

The same three filled the podium at event 14 on 20th July but in a different order. Jack took 1st place for 3 points, George was 2nd (2 points) and Dexter earned 1 point for 3rd.

Overall in the series, Morgan Leeming-Sykes was 3rd in the U12 Girls category. Jack was 1st, Dexter 2nd and George 3rd. Fantastic work, well done all!

At the Pedalsport Spring Circuits #5 Saturday 15th July on the Brooksbank (Hammerstones) Cycle Circuit in Elland it was also the turn of our even younger stars to enjoy success at circuit racing.

In the U8 Girls category Annie Chambers was 2nd with Amy Hodgkins one place behind in 3rd. Annie’s sister Charlotte won the U10 Girls category whilst in the corresponding Boys event Alex Hodgkins was 5th. Two of our leading trio in the U14 Boys category Jack Coates and George Radcliffe finished with points in their race, Jack 6 for 4th place and George 5 for 5th place.

Dexter Leeming-Sykes rode Round 7 and Round 8 of the North East Youth League (NEYL) on the weekend of Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July. These formed Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the Stockton Wheelers Youth Tour. Saturday’s event was held on the Middlesbrough Cycle Circuit and Sunday’s formed part of Stockton Cycling Festival.
