Only two ride reports for you this week. When the sun is out it is hard to entice people back to a computer to write a report… and I for one don’t blame them… we’d all rather be out riding! But this should give you a flavour of what was a lovely day of social riding! 🙂
Gentle ride to North Rigton
Due to reduced numbers turning up on the day, there was only one gentle group this week. 8 of us headed out of Otley via the back streets due to the closure of part of the A659 for the Otley Food and Drink Festival (perhaps that’s one of the reasons our numbers were down!). We soon hit a good pace and rhythm along the Pool Road on the way to Castley Lane, where lovely quiet roads awaited us. Well, they were lovely and quiet until we reached Almscliffe Cragg where our photo opportunity was soon interrupted.
From there on we shared the road with numerous tractors with heavily laden hay carts attached. All were well behaved though, tractors and OCC members alike!
After a sunny breakfast on the terrace at the Square & Compass, we headed back down Cragg Lane toward Stainburn and Leathley. Just as I was thinking what a truly gentle ride it had been, one member of the group (who shall remain nameless until he actually joins the club as promised…) got a puncture. The puncture was fixed pretty quickly but it took a good few of us to work out how to re-attach the rear wheel! (a terrible admission on my part, but who ever thought rear derailleurs were a good idea!). After waving off our lovely back marker, Sheila, at Pool, the rest of us returned to Otley via Farnley Lane and adjourned to the Fleece for a very enjoyable ale (or two…).
Thanks to Dave, Eddie, Del and Andy, Chris (who was meant to be nameless!), Trish and Sheila for another fantastic Sunday Social Ride. Apologies to Richard who missed the ride due to the changed departure point – it was nice to have you join us at the Square & Compass at least.
Stretching ride to Harlow Carr
Today’s jaunt was the Stretching ride to Harlow Carr, and my merry group comprised Janine, Mark, Fran, Steve, Bill, and Lorraine. We started with a warm up climb to Farnley, before descending and following the quiet lanes from Leathley across to Almscliffe Crags for the obligatory photo stop.
Next to North Rigton and the short sharp climb out, before dropping down into Beckwithshaw and on to our coffee stop at Betty’s in Harlow Carr.
Full of Fat Rascals, we set off on our return, the group voting for an extra hill on the way back. All in all, a lovely day with excellent cycling weather, and a fun group. Thanks to Mark for back marking the ride for me.
