Travelling north to time trial, Otley CC riders took part in a 10 and a 15 over the last weekend.
On Saturday 3 June Andrew Bolton was our sole representative in the VTTA (North) Open 10-mile TT on the T104 course based on the A6055 between Leeming and Sinderby. As Andrew’s pointed out, for the majority of ride the A6955 is higher than the motorway and there’s little in the way of hedges so it’s very exposed resulting in a consistent, taxing cross-wind which caused him to stay on the drops the whole time rather than using his tri-bars.
Andrew recorded a PB of 26:21, beating his VTTA standard by 6 seconds, a goal he’d set himself to beat by the end of 2018, achieving it a season early.
The event was won by Shaun Tyson of Adept Precision RT in 20:44. No women entered the event. Full results from the CTT website.
Andrew was joined the next day in the East Bradford CC 15 on the V221 by another four Otley CC members – Claire and Greg Jessop, John Churchman and Junior rider Luke O’Connell.
Using the ever popular A168 but extended on this version of the 15 course past the Bridge Inn at Walshford on a section of the road Claire describes as “ragged and unpleasant” – and to be used when Claire and others ride the CTT Team Time Trial National Championships (see separate report) – riders enjoyed a warm but slightly windy day with a crosswind as experienced by Andrew the day before.
Claire was the fastest Otley rider in 40:57, a course PB, followed by Luke with 41:16, Greg one second behind (41:17), Andrew, suffering the effects of the day before, on 41:59 and John 47:57.
Claire’s ride took her to third place in the Women’s YCF SpoCo 2017 Competition with 3,340 points. Despite missing races whilst be away on holiday, Helen Goldthorpe still leads the competition on 4,463 points.
The event was won by Adam Duggleby MBE (Vive Le Velo) in 30:17. Fastest woman in 35:21 was Melissa Lowther of Team Breeze.
