Triangle 5 & 6. Complete the sequence – 10, 15, ?

Triangle Time Trial Series 2017

Well, it’s 12.5. How so? This week, the Triangle Series took place over two days with a 10-mile TT and a 15-mile TT on Tuesday 23rd May and a 12.5 on Thursday 25th.

On Tuesday, riders could decide whether to just ride 10 miles on the A168 or to carry on to the Boroughbridge roundabout and back to complete 15 miles, points awarded only for the latter, although 10 mile times were also recorded.

22 riders started, 15 of those choosing to complete the longer distance on what was a bright and warm evening but with a challenging breeze in both directions.

The 10

In the 10-mile-only TT, fastest with a PB of 24:33 was junior Harry Hunt. Megan Cullen was fastest woman in 26:54.

Full results for the 10 as follows.

The 12.5

Thursday 25th May saw the series returning to its natural home, the Pool Triangle.

Glorious weather and a light breeze made for a rapid evening, illustrated by the fastest time of the night, a 26:24, recorded by Adam Robinson of Team KTM UK. That’s still 44 seconds off the time set by Jonny Clay when training for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, but the challenge has been accepted!

Sam Ward was fastest Otley rider in 28:55. Fastest Otley woman, dipping under 34 minutes, was Helen Goldthorpe, her Triangle PB of 33:50 netting her 3 points. Tom Broadley went one better than Tuesday, taking the maximum 6 points. Along with his and his dad’s points earned this week they are now both in joint lead in the points standings with 13 points each.

Sheldon Howcroft’s reward for his hard work this week was 5 points, John Buddle also scored his first 2017 points (4), Jonathan Hobbs took 2 and the final point went to James Allen.

A mention also for Dominic Eagan who rode his first Triangle, getting under 40 minutes with a 39:51.
