A ride in an event on the V212 10-mile course out near Boroughbridge may not be as sought after as one on the record breaking Hull V718 but that hasn’t stopped organiser Christine Bell and her assistant Trevor Hatib attracting a full field of 120 riders and two tandems to ride it in our open 10 Saturday 15th April.
Christine and Trevor have done a fantastic job promoting the event, particularly for women, aided by our Women’s Development Officer Liz Hills. 26 women are riding, first rider off in the field being our own Christine Thwaite. Other Otley women riding are Rachel Crowther, Claire Jessop, Helen Goldthorpe, all theee of them club record holders, Rachel of course being a national age record holder with Christine Bell.
The male Otley contingent are led off by Trevor (he’s a busy day ahead!), followed by club 15-mile record holder Greg Jessop, Harry Hunt – another club tandem record holder along with sister Eleanor – Chris Yates and Toby Kitching.
The event has proved so popular that Christine had to reject some entries due to it being over subscribed, 120 solo riders being the maximum allowed. However, reserves are allowed of which there are 11, six of those being Otley riders.
The tandems are the first away, starting at 2.01 pm. Tandem event details can be found on the CTT website here. The first solo rider is away at 2.05 pm and details of the solos can also be found on the CTT website – see this link. Both links contain details of all aspects of the event.
The event headquarters are at Arkendale Community Hall – see www.arkendale.org.uk – and the start and finish are on the A168 near the junction with Marton Lane.
