The clocks sprang forward an hour, but nobody was fooled. Alarms had been set and plenty of riders were awake enough to enjoy the glorious spring sunshine.
A big thank you to Anne and Will who stepped up for the first time to lead and back-mark the gentle ride respectively. Judging from the report it sounds like an it was an enjoyable, if not straight-forward experience! Enjoy…
A gentle adventure to Addingham
Well what a cycle ride! All conditions boded well for a nice, uneventful, gentle ride to Addingham. The sun shone and the views were amazing. We started off as two groups but on the way out of Otley one group lost two riders due to technical problems so two became one.
Off we rode along to Ilkley, Will providing the back marking, fielding off enthusiastic drivers, and Anne leading. There was friendly banter along the way particularly as we navigated the farmer’s gate, the path to the steps and the bridge.
We arrived in Addingham and meandered along the back roads to Ilkley, which were picturesque in the morning sunshine. We stopped at Out of the Box in Ilkley and having enjoyed light refreshments prepared for the return journey.
However, progress was not uneventful. Without too much detail, the incident involved a bicycle lock, a key and a pair of pliers! Many thanks to Julia, and Ilkley cycles for their prompt action and help with this unexpected incident. We continued to Otley with a brief stop at the stepping-stones, the more adventurous of us leaping across the stones.
From here we had a pleasant ride to The Fleece. This was definitely a ride to remember and thanks to all for the fun and good humour.
A strenuous duo go to Harrogate
Matt and Iain rode over to Harrogate via Fewston and Swinsty. A ride team of two may well represent an OCC Social Series record for the most select group. We enjoyed the glorious Yorkshire weather and some delicious grub at Prologue café in Harrogate. The company was obviously great for both of us too!
