Many of you will be aware that Christine Bell and Rachel Crowther rode their tandem to a distance of just over 187 miles in the Team Swift 12-hour on 31st July last year. If you’re not familiar with their adventure, from when they came up with the idea to do it on a tandem to the actual event, you can read all about it in their website article Blame it on the Bluebells – our 12 hour challenge.
Christine and Rachel were the only tandem pair to brave the half day ride. A first 12-hour is a daunting enough task in itself but perhaps even more so when done on a tandem. Not only did they complete the event still smiling and still friends but they also set a new club tandem record for women in a 12-hour. But their success didn’t stop there. They also broke another record, this one at national level.
Although it’s taken a while to be ratified the club is extremely pleased to be able to confirm that Christine and Rachel are now holders of the Veteran Time Trials Association (VTTA) Best on Record for Women’s 12-hour Tandem. They are both now proud owners of a certificate confirming their record ride.
Well done to our tandem record breakers and here’s to more records in 2017!
