For those who wanted to clear their heads after over-indulging on the last day of 2016, for those who were more restrained – sensible people! – and for those not yet old enough, the NovaCross on New Years Day was a chance to test just how much fitness had been lost over the festive season and to kick-start their 2017 season.
Organised by Harrogate Nova CC – the clue’s in the title – on a course at Conyngham Hall, Knaresborough, the event proved to be a hard-fought one for all competitors, overnight rain causing muddy conditions.
Several Otley CC members set their alarm clocks early to brave the conditions. At the time of writing all results are still to be confirmed (will be updated) but the most successful of those members were at the younger end of the membership with Eleanor Hunt 2nd in the U14 Girls, Megan Cullen 3rd in the U16 Girls and George Radcliffe in the top 10 in his class.
In the Junior Men class Tom Cullen, Harry Hunt and Robbie Pollard were 13th, 14th and 15th respectively.
Tim Howcroft was 37th in the MV40 class. In the MV50 class our leading rider was Andrew Moxon in 41st with Ian Cullen 42nd, brother James 44th and Peter Middlemiss, starting off his bid for cycling world domination in 2017, in 52nd place.
Fuller list of the results on the NovaCross website – see link at the top of this page.
The next cyclo cross in the area is a big ‘un, the Nationals at Peel Park in Bradford Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th January.
