Racing 48 – July 2016. Circuit racing means points

There are several closed road racing circuits relatively close to Otley and our members often enjoy success at those circuits.

In the round 5 of the White Rose Youth League at the Hammerstones Road cycle circuit in Halifax, Otley riders took 8 points in total, James Wordsworth finishing 4th in the U14 Boys race for 6 points and Sam Howcroft taking the other 2 for 8th.  Full BC results here.

The following evening in the 14th round of the CDPP Crit Series on the Steven Burke Sports Hub Cycling Circuit at Nelson James Coates took another point for Otley CC, finishing 10th in the 3/4 category event.  Full BC results here.

On Sunday 17th July, it was the turn of one of our older riders to score the points.  In round 3 of the North East Trucks Spares sponsored Houghton CC series at Hetton Lyons Country Park  Tim Howcroft managed a fine fifth place for 5 points, according to Tim “Not bad for Fatboy in only his second crit in 17 years”.  Tim was there supporting son Joe of VCUK PH-MAS who scored his 3rd win in a week.  Photograph of Tim courtesy of Houghton CC from the race report on their website. At the same location on Saturday 23rd July, Robbie Pollard came 3rd in the 3/4 category event at the Hetton crits.  Here’s Robbie’s report from the Otley CC/Chevin Cycles Junior & Youth Team Facebook page.

“Some great racing at the weekend at Hetton crits, managed a 3rd place an the very fast 3/4 race and also won the prime lap. Ended up winning myself £35 in the proces. Also a big thanks to Tim Howcroft for being soigneur for that day.”

Well done all our points scorers!
