What a difference a year makes. The 2015 Otley CC 50 was a cold and windy affair but 2016’s was, thankfully, a real contrast.
Riders and the marshals and helpers out on the course were greeted by a warm, sunny day with little or no wind. Although the V258 may never produce a competition record, today it yielded six rides under 1 hour 50 minutes, the fastest overall being 1:43:30 by Mark Thaxter of HD Revolutions, an almost 4-minute beating of second placed rider Mark Flannery, Team Swift, who recorded 1:47:24. Fastest woman was Karen Taylor of East Bradford CC in 2:01:23.
Three Otley CC riders took part, the fastest being Gareth Metcalfe who rode to 12th place overall in 1:52:20. Tim Howcroft recorded 1:58:26 and Claire Jessop achieved yet another PB with a 2:14:09, knocking over 5 minutes off her previous best 50 time. Full results, including prize winners, below.
Thanks to James Cullen for organising the event, to all marshals and helpers out on the course and at the Aldborough HQ and to Joyce and Keith Webb for their timekeeping.
