After the excitement of the official Tour de Yorkshire we have our very own Otley Tour de Yorkshire. We have asked our ride leaders to get out their maps and to design a range of exciting and different ride choices so that we have rides going in all different directions this Sunday.
Each ride leader will be able to take no more than 10 people on their ride so if you are keen to do a ride make sure you arrive at the Buttercross by 9.00 to book your place on Sunday morning!! All rides (apart from the Ripley ride) will leave from the Buttercross at 9.15 promptly. We have some really great options that should make it hard to choose where to ride…read on…..

Gently Stretching – Liz’s Random Rawdon Ramble – 18-25 Miles
This ride will be decided on the day based on who is in the group but it will be a special adventure! We will be heading towards Rawdon and the lovely Green and Brown’s vegetarian café for our coffee and cake. The route will use a mix of back roads and some gentler main road sections to avoid any challenging hill climbs. We will adapt the ride depending on the experience of the group of the day but will be based on this route

Stretching –Mark’s Shadwell Sortee – 30 Miles
Mark Sage has devised us a lovely route which will take us out to Shadwell via Thorner. The route will be a little longer than our usual stretching ride but it will be a relatively flat route and there will be frequent stops to admire the views.

Stretching – Graham’s Party in Pannel – 24 Miles
This was going to be a Wilsden Wobbler but having tested the route this week Graham and Julia have reclassified it as a strenuous route so we have got it in our back pocket for another day. In its place our team will take you on a route which will feature a cafe we have not been to so far at Otley Social Half Day Rides!! How did we miss Christian’s Bistro in Pannel when they do a fantastic range of cakes, snacks, coffee and Yorkshire tea?! Many thanks to Jo for reminding us about this cafe, hope you will come back for this ride!! So the route….we won’t lie there is a little bit of climbing but all early on in the ride and then lots of downhill stretches for the return to Otley.

Strenuous– John’s Jolly Giant Hill Climbing Adventure – 30 Miles
This route will join up two excellent hill climbs into one beautiful circuit. The route will go out from Otley via Asquith and then will take the “gentle” approach to Langbar to capture your first amazing views of our fantastic Yorkshire landscape. After a steep descent (do make sure your brakes are ready for this ride…might be time to pop into Chevin Cycles?!) there is tea at the delightful Strid Tea Rooms. The return leg will take you through Addingham before tackling the final big climb of the day – the Cow and Calf for another brilliant photo opportunity before the gentle return to Otley via Menston.

There are some beautiful views as you cross past over the Washburn Valley and the café will restore your energy levels ready for the return leg. There will be plenty of hills and as always there will stops to take photos of our beautiful Yorkshire Landscape. Fantastic snacks and cakes are guaranteed!
